One of the most specific questions our admissions team receives is: if my child completes Sixth Form at Thames with A-Levels, can they study at a Spanish university? The answer is yes.
Thanks to the bilateral agreement between Spain and the UK, students following the British system do not need to have their qualifications formally recognised in most cases. Applications are made through UNEDasiss, which converts A-Level grades to the Spanish 0–10 scale. For degree courses with high entry requirements, students can earn additional points by taking the Specific Competency Tests (PCE).
At Thames, we offer Cambridge International A-Levels in Sixth Form. Our guidance team and Director of Admissions and Career Adviser support students from earlier stages as they choose their subjects and plan their university applications.
Thames students have gone on to Spanish universities including the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), studying Medicine, Physics and Dentistry; Universidad Carlos III; IE University; and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). International destinations have included the University of Bristol, the University of Glasgow and the University of Michigan, among others. We update our examples of offers and destinations each year.
The process usually involves choosing the right A-Level subjects for the student’s intended degree, applying for UNEDasiss accreditation and, in some cases, preparing for the PCE. The school supports families with deadlines and documentation.
Many families value the flexibility of keeping options open in Spain, the UK and other countries. If you would like to understand the process for your child’s specific circumstances, we recommend arranging a meeting with the admissions or guidance team.
